Welcome to Ahead by a Millisecond, a music blog focused on Canadian music. The name was derived from The Tragically Hip’s iconic song Ahead by a Century.
Hi! My name is Melriva, the woman behind the blog. I live in Toronto, and grew up in the GTA. As a kid, Canadian music was a huge part of my life…though, I didn’t realize it then. Our Lady Peace, Billy Talent, Avril Lavigne, Alexisonfire, Nelly Furtado…these are just a few artists/groups that made me into the person I am today. I have a lot of core childhood memories associated with these artists, and I could probably name a time and place that I listened to this or that song. That’s how tied I am to the music I listen to!
As an adult, my love for Canadian music grew tenfold when I started listening to the incredible bands/artists that are from Québec. I always loved learning French, so listening to Franco-Québécois music was a natural leeway for me to get into the world of francophone music. Now, I am a full on fan! As a francophone enthusiast, my hope is for readers to take a dive into the world of French Canadian music.
